Marriage Line in Palmistry: Love, Union and How to Read It
The marriage line — or union line — sits below the little finger and speaks to deep emotional commitments. Guide to identifying and interpreting it.
What is the marriage line in palmistry
The marriage line, also called the union line or affection line, consists of one or more short horizontal lines that appear on the edge of the palm, below the little finger. They do not necessarily indicate legal marriage but deep emotional commitments: long relationships, significant bonds or moments of intense union in one's emotional life. Their absence does not imply loneliness, but rather that commitment is registered differently in the hand.
How to identify the marriage line in your hand
It is on the lateral edge of the palm, in the mount of Mercury area, between the heart line and the base of the little finger. There may be one line or several. To see it well you need the hand extended with lateral light: union lines are short, horizontal and point inward toward the palm. If you have several, each one may correspond to a significant relationship or commitment, though the interpretation depends on depth and length.
Long and deep marriage line
A long, well-marked line indicates a lasting relationship of great emotional importance. If it reaches or nearly touches the sun line, palmistry tradition associates it with a partner who contributes positively to your personal destiny or success. The deeper and more unbroken it is, the more stable and nourishing the union it represents.
Short, faint or forked marriage line
A short line does not necessarily indicate brief relationships, but commitments of lesser or more independent emotional scope. If it forks at the start — on the lateral side — it can signal a relationship that began with uncertainty or between two people coming from previous significant histories. If the fork is at the end, some palmists associate it with separation or distancing, though the full context of the hand always adds nuance.

Having several union lines is more common than it seems. It does not mean infidelity or instability: it can reflect several significant relationships over a lifetime, or the same relationship lived in very different phases. The deepest of all is generally the most significant. Comparing them in depth, length and direction gives more information than simply counting them.
Marriage line that falls toward the heart line
If a union line descends and touches or crosses the heart line, classical palmistry associates it with an intense emotional loss connected to that relationship: grief, a difficult separation or a wound that took a long time to heal. It is not a portent of what will happen, but a record of what the body and unconscious have registered as a major emotional impact.
